Southeast Dallas is rapidly becoming one of the fastest growing areas for economic development in North Texas. This is true for many reasons, the least of which is it’s close proximity to Downtown Dallas; less than 10 minutes. Additionally, Southeast Dallas is bordered on all sides by one or more major state highways that link it directly to the rest of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and surrounding areas. These highways are then connected to each other via a grid-work of over 10 multi-lane boulevards, which crisscross Southeast Dallas, providing hundreds of miles of retail frontage. In addition, DART's new extension of it's Green Light Rail Line, now directly connects Southeast Dallas to one of the largest public transportation systems in North America. Abundant, affordable property is another reason for the renewed interest in Southeast Dallas, a whopping 32% of which is vacant or undeveloped.
An economic feasibility study was recently conducted for all of Southern Dallas as part of the Mayor's Southern Dallas Task Force. The results clearly showed that Dallas’ greatest opportunity for growth in the next 20 years lied within its Southern sectors. Top: Trinity River Audubon Center
Bottom: Eastfield College Pleasant GroveAs a result, the Mayor publicly unveiled the City of Dallas’ commitment to investing over 800 million dollars into the Southern sectors of Dallas in the decade to come. With this as our catalyst, the Southeast Dallas Chamber of Commerce, along with dozens of other community-minded businesses and organizations, is helping launch a multi-million dollar re-branding and revitalization campaignthat will re-position Southeast Dallas and particularly Pleasant Grove, as the vibrant, healthy community that it is, rich with diversity, culture and abundant opportunities for economic development.
Many have already begun to capitalize on the tremendous opportunities that Southeast Dallas has to offer; The Trinity River Audubon Center opened in October 2008, adjacent to the 6,000-acre Great Trinity Forest, the largest urban hardwood forest in the United Sates. It is the flagship center for Audubon’s education and conservation initiatives in Texas. Eastfield Community College’s new 40,000 square foot, state-of-the-art Pleasant Grove Campus will serve as a portal to the community into educational, economic and civic activities, instruction and programs.
